Bazı fiillerden sonra da hitap edilen kişi önünde edat kullanılır:

She whispered to her brother about us.
He explained to the police the situation.
They complained to the teacher about the lesson.

Bu şekilde kullanılan fiillerden bazıları: Explain, describe, complain, mutter, murmur, say,
shout, call, talk, whisper, suggest.

Bu fiillerden shout fiilinin kendisinden sonra alacağı edata göre manası değişir:

Shout at: Birisine kızdığımızdan dolayı bağırmak.;

He shouted at me to tell him the truth.

Shout to: Birisi uzaktayken (duyması için) bağırmak;

He shouted to his friends.

 Preposition (edat) ve Adverb (zarf) arasındaki fark:

 Daha önce de belirttiğimiz gibi preposition bir nesneden önce gelmelidir. Bu yüzden isim,
zamir ve gerund (-ing’li fiil)’ı etkiler. Adverb (zarf) ise nesne almaz; daha çok fiili etkiler.

 Bazı kelimeler hem preposition hem de adverb olarak kullanılabilirler:

There is a farm beyond İçel. (preposition: nesne var)
There is a farm beyond. (adverb: nesne yok)

 Bu şekilde yaygın olarak kullanılan kelimeler: By, down, in, near, along, inside, about,
above, across, after, around, before, behind, below, beneath, beyond, off, on, opposite,
outside, over, past, round, through, under, underneath, up, without.

 Sadece preposition olarak kullanılan kelimeler vardır. Bunlar: at, against, beside, despite,
during, except, for, from, into, of, onto, per, since, till/ until, to, toward(s), upon, via, with.

Television pictures are transmitted via satellite.
I read all of his books except ‘Little Dorrit’.

 Ve sonu –ing ile biten preposition’lar: Barring, considering, excepting, including,
excluding, regarding, concerning.

Barring accidents, we should arrive on time.
He has a letter concerning his complaint.
She behaved carefully regarding his character.
