             A pair of  ile kullanılan isimlerden sonra gelen fiil tekil olmalıdır;

           A pair of shoes was bought for my brother.
           A pair of pants costs quite a lot these days.

           A pair of ile kullanılabilen kelimelerden bazıları;

           boots      pliers     shorts      stockings
           braces     pyjamas    skates      tights
           glasses    scissors   skis        tongs
           knickers   shears     slippers    trousers etc...
           pants      shoes      socks


             Bu sözcüklerin önünde normalde sayı kullanamayız; ama, two pairs of, three pairs of  gibi
           kelime grubu kullanabiliriz ve fiil çoğul olur;

           Two pairs of shoes were bought for me.
           Three pairs of pants have been given to the cleaner.

            Çoğulu değişik manaya gelen isimler:

           Bazı isimler tekil kullanıldıklarında farklı, çoğul kullanıldıklarında farklı manaya sahip
           olurlar. Bunlardan bazıları;

           air/airs                        content/contents          custom/customs           saving/savings
           damage/damages     glass/glasses   minute/minutes   spectacle/spectacles
           ash/ashes                     fund/funds                   manner/manners         step/steps
           drawer/drawers   look/looks   pain/pains   work/works


            Bazen anlam olarak birbirlerden oldukça uzaktırlar;

           spectacle = manzara,          spectacles =gözlük
           drawer = çekmece              drawers = don

            Bazen de birbirlerine çok yakın anlamlara sahiptirler:

           fund/funds     damage/damages  gibi.
