1. Medd muttasil (Connected medd):
Connected lengthening (medd muttasil) occurs when
a hamzah follows a medd letter in the same word.

2. Medd munfasil ( Separated medd) :
Separated lengthening (medd munfasil) occurs when
the medd letter is the last letter of the word and the

In that case, the medd (lengthening) is optional; if
pronounced, it can be held for four alif vowels:
3. Medd laazim (Compulsory ):
The compulsory lengthening (medd laazim) is when
