Either....or

‘Ya.....ya da’ anlamındaki bu bağlaç genellikle olumlu cümlelerde kullanılır:

I will learn either Spanish or French in addition to English.
(İngilizce’nin yanında ya İspanyolca ya da Fransızca öğreneceğim)

You must have left your wallet either on the table or in the drawer.
(Cüzdanınızı ya masanın üstünde ya da çekmecede bırakmış olmalısınız)

He is going to either write or phone you after so many years.
(Bu kadar yıldan sonra sana ya yazacak ya da telefon edecek)

 Bu bağlaç olumsuz cümlede kullanıldığı zaman neither.....nor anlamını verir:

She can’t either see or hear. (Ne görebiliyor ne de işitebiliyor) =
She can neither see nor hear. (Ne görebiliyor ne de işitebiliyor)

Your house isn’t either beautiful or cheap. (Eviniz ne güzeldir ne de ucuzdur) =
Your house is neither beautiful nor cheap. (Eviniz ne güzeldir ne de ucuzdur)

Not only..... but also:

Yapı olarak olumsuz görünmesine rağmen olumlu bir anlama sahiptir ve olumlu cümlelerde
kullanılır. Both.....and bağlacı gibi bir anlama sahiptir; fakat, ondan biraz daha vurgulu bir an-
lam taşır:

Not only my father was there but also my uncle.
(Sadece babam değil amcam da oradaydı)

She is not only arrogant but also selfish.
(O sadece gururlu değil bencildir de)

Bob not only shouted at his son but also beat him.
(Bob oğluna sadece bağırmadı dövdü de)

The last storm caused not only loss of property but also loss of life.
(Geçen fırtına sadece mal kaybına değil can kaybına da sebep oldu)
