TAG QUESTIONS

Türkçe karşılığı eklenti sorular olan tag questions adlarından da anlaşıldığı gibi cümlelerin
sonuna eklenen sorulardır. Bunlar bir yardımcı fiil ve bir zamirden oluşurlar. Eklenti soruları
cümlede kullanılan yardımcı fiil, modal (kiplik) ya da zamana göre değişir. Olumlu cümle-
lerde olumsuz, olumsuz cümlelerde olumlu eklenti sorusu getirilir:

She is a doctor, isn’t she? She isn’t a doctor, is she?
(O bir doktordur, değil mi?) (O bir doktor değildir, değil mi?)

Peter keeps his promise, doesn’t he? Peter doesn’t keep his promise, does he?
(Peter sözünde durur, değil mi?) (Peter sözünde durmaz, değil mi?)

You went to school today, didn’t you?. You didn’t go to s1chool today, did you?.
(Bugün okula gittin değil mi?) (Bugün okula gitmedin, değil mi?)

They were beaten, weren’t they? They weren’t beaten, were they?
(Yenildiler, değil mi?) (Yenilmediler, değil mi?)

He turned off the light, didn’t he? He didn’t turn off the light, did he?
(Işığı söndürdü, değil mi?) (Işığı söndürmedi, değil mi?)

You can swim, can’t you? You can’t swim ,can you?
(Yüzebilirsin, değil mi?) (Yüzemezsin, değil mi?)

She has finished her homework, hasn’t she? She hasn’t finished her homework, has she?
(Ödevini bitirdi, değil mi?) (Ödevini bitirmedi, değil mi?)

Bu tür sorulara şu şekilde cevap veririz:

He turned off the light, didn’t he?
(Işığı söndürdü, değil mi?)

Olumlu cevap: Yes, he did. Olumsuz cevap: No, he didn’t.

 Tag questions’larda dikkat etmemiz gereken bazı hususlar vardır:

This, that, these, those cümlede özne görevindeyse eklenti sorularında this/that için it
zamiri, these/those için they zamiri kullanılır:

This is your car, isn’t it?
(Bu sizin araba, değil mi?)

That is a very cheap dress, isn’t it?
(Şu çok ucuz bir elbisedir, değil mi?)
