 Bununla birlikte her predicative sıfat attributive olarak kullanılmaz. Örneklerle karşılaştı-
ralım:

alive

After the earthquake, all the animals were alive.

Bu cümlede alive yerine living kullanamayız. Söz konusu olan şartlar ve çevre dikkate alınma-
lıdır.

ashamed

It was a shameful talk (konuşmayı ifade ediyor)
She seemed to be ashamed (kişiği ifade ediyor)

alone

He is a lonely man(=attributive)
They were alone(=predicative)

 Very ile pekiştiremediğimiz bu sıfatları bazı kelimelerle pekiştirebiliriz:

fully/wide awake, all alone, fast/sound asleep, all alight vb.

 Bazı sıfatları da very much ile pekiştirebiliriz:

I’m very much afraid. The snake is very much alive.
He is very much alone. She was very much ashamed.

 Bu sıfatlardan afraid ve ashamed sadece very ile de pekiştirilebilir:

The boy was very ashamed.
My mother is very afraid.
