ADJECTIVES

 Sıfatların ismin sonunda veya arkasında kullanılması:

İsmin sonunda veya arkasında kullanıldığında anlamı değişmeyen çok sınırlı sayıda sıfat
vardır: available, imaginable, taxable, visible, eligible:

They want to fly to Kale by the first plane available.
They want to fly to Kale by the first available plane.

He spoke with visible contempt.
He spoke contempt visible.

İsmin sonunda kullanıldığında anlamı değişmeyen birkaç sıfat vardır. Bunlardan bazıları:

involved, responsible, elect, present, concerned, proper.

Ali is a responsible boy. (=sorumluluk sahibi)
The boy responsible was prisoned. (=bir suçtan sorumlu tutulan)

Present scientists of Turkey are only 12. (=şu anda bilim adamı olanlar)
Scientists present are trying to find solutions to some questions. (=Şu anda burada bulunan
bilim adamları)

 The+ adjective yapısı: (Adjectival noun)

Aşağıdaki örneklerde göreceğimiz gibi the+ adjective yapısı bütün bir grubu temsil ettiğin-
den sıfat isimleşmiştir:

the young , the deaf, the dump, the elderly, the blind, the homeless, the old, the poor, the sick,
the innocent ...

The old should be helped.
The guilty have been sentenced.
The poor must be taken into consideration.
The sick are going to be treated.

Bu örneklerde dikkat etmemiz gereken hususlardan biri de böyle öznelerden sonra gelen fiilin
çoğul oluşudur.

Böyle bir yapıda both kullandığımız zaman the düşebilir:

Both deaf and dump should be helped.
