235 THE GERUND

Fiil + possessive (iyelik=my, your, his, Ann’s gibi) + gerund:

Bu şekilde kullanılan fiiller: appreciate, avoid, consider, defer, delay, deny, enjoy, postpone,
risk, suggest

They have delayed our opening the school.
She denied her being guilty.
I didn’t enjoy his behaving like that.

Fiil + accusative veya possessive + gerund:

Bu şekilde kullanılan fiiller: anticipate, contemplate, detest, dislike, dispute, endure, escape,
excuse, fancy, forgive, hate, hinder, imagine, involve, like, love, mention, mind, miss,
pardon, prevent, resent, resist, understand, can’t bear, can’t help, can’t stand

He disliked us/our working late.
She resented him/his being promoted before her.
I didn’t forgive them/their disturbing me last night.
Excuse me/my not obeying the rules.
Would you ever have imagined him/his becoming a politician.

Edatlardan (prepositions) sonra:

Bütün edatlardan sonra gerund kullanılabilir:

They didn’t tell me about going on a holiday.
After running two hours, I felt tired.
She left home without asking for permission.
Despite trying to improve the working conditions, they couldn’t take even a step forward.
Instead of sleeping, you should have studied for your visa exams.

Sıfat (adjective) + edattan sonra gerund:

He is good at swimming.
I am sorry for disturbing you.
They weren’t content with working in poor conditions.
She is interested in collecting stamps.
