237                 THE GERUND


            İsimlerden sonra gerund:

            Sayılabilir olsun olmasın pek çok isimden sonra gerund gelebilir. Özne ‘it’ tir:

           It’s a pleasure being here with you.
           It’s  fun being taken to the zoo.
           It’s a hell sharing the same room with him.

            Üstteki cümlelerde gerund’ tan önce accusative veya possessive gelebilir:

           It’s a luck his/him winning the football lottery.
           It’s a tragedy their/them going bankrupt.


            Yaygın olarak kullanılan ifadelerden sonra gerund:

           It’s no use complaining about the results of  yesterday’s exam.
           (Dünkü sınavın sonuçları için şikayet etmenin faydası yok)

           There is no point in warning him.
           (Onu uyarmanın hiçbir anlamı yok)

           He wastes time watching TV.
           (Televizyon seyrederek zaman harcar)

           Bu ifadeler şunlardır:

           it’s no use                        it’s worthwhile            it’s no good
           it’s hardly any use           spend money/time       there is no
           it’s little use                     there is no point in     what is the point/use
           it’s worth


            What about ve How about yapılarından sonra gerund:

           What about/How about fishing tomorrow.
           What about/How about going to the cinema tonight.


            Yasaklamalarda ‘No’ dan sonra:

           No smoking!          No parking!      No swimming!
