 ADVERBS OF PLACE (Yer zarfları)

Abroad, ahead, anywhere, everywhere, somewhere, ashore, away/back, forwards,
backwards, here, there, left/right gibi kelimeler yer zarfı olarak kullanılırlar:

My father has just come from abroad.
If you want to go anywhere, let me know.
Their ship had been driven ashore by the bad weather.
The way ahead was blocked by the fallen trees.

Above, behind, below, beneath, underneath gibi kelimeler edat (preposition) görevi
görmelerinin yanında yer zarfı olarak da kullanılabilirler:

There was a portrait with an inscription underneath.
The passengers who felt seasick stayed below.
Mr. Genç asked me to stay behind.
Put the plates on the shelf above.
That woman’s make-up has the signs of age beneath.

Down below, down up/there, far ahead, far away, over there gibi iki kelimeden oluşan yer
zarfları da vardır:

The sun went down below the horizon.
Call me if you need me; I won’t be far away.

Yer zarflarında en çok karşılaşılan problem bunların cümlenin neresinde kullanılacağıdır.
Cümlemizde eğer tarz zarfı ve zaman zarfı varsa, yer zarfı bunların ortasına gelir:

He studied hard in the library yesterday.
manner place time
(tarz) (yer) (zaman)

Bununla birlikte yön bildiren zarflar, come, drive, go gibi hareket bildiren fiillerden sonra
ama diğer zarflardan önce kullanılırlar:

They will go to Antakya by bus next week.
direction manner time
(yön) (tarz) (zaman)

Yer zarfları ayrıca vurgu yapmak için cümlenin başında kullanılırlar:

Away they went.
Round and round flew the plane.
Down fell a dozen apples.
In the doorway stood a man with a gun.
