THE PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Bu tense‟in direk olarak Türkçe‟de karşılığı yoktur.Yapısını inceleyip kullanımını anlattıktan
sonra kolaylıkla anlaşılacaktır:

He had been playing. He had not been playing. Had he been playing?
She had been playing. She had not been playing. Had she been playing?
It had been playing. It had not been playing. Had it been playing?
We had been playing. We had not been playin. Had we been playing?
They had been playing. They had not been playing. Had they been playing?
Negative interrogative: Had I not been playing? veya
(Olumsuz soru) Hadn‟t I been playing? gibi.

Üstteki tabloda görüldüğü gibi;

Affirmative (Olumlu) cümlelerde bütün öznelerden sonra had been+V(ing) getirilir:

They were very exhausted because they had been working without stopping for a long time.
(Uzun bir süre durmadan çalıştıklarından dolayı çok bitkinlerdi)

He had been watching TV all day long.
(Gün boyunca TV seyretmekteydi)

Negative (Olumlu) cümlelerde ise durum had not been + V(ing) şeklindedir. Kısaca hadn’t
been +V(ing)

It had been snowing since Wednesday so we couldn‟t go out.
(Çarşamba‟dan beri kar yağmaktaydı, bu yüzden dışarı çıkamadık)

He hadn’t been living in Russia when the war broke out.
(Savaş patlak verdiğinde Rusya‟da yaşamıyordu)

Interrogative (Soru) cümlelerinde sadece had yardımcı fiilimiz başa getirilir, diğer bütün
durumlar aynıdır:

Had they been sleeping when you phoned them?
(Onları aradığında uyuyorlar mıydı?)

Had he been working in this factory when you last saw him?
(Onu en son gördüğünüzde bu fabrikada mı çalışıyordu?)
