Be going to
Be going to da gelecek zaman belirtir. Fakat will‟e nazaran daha fazla kesinlik belirtir; öz-
ne ne yapacağına karar vermiştir, planını yapmıştır:
Be fiili bilindiği gibi I öznesinde am; you, we, they öznelerinde are; he, she, it öznelerinde is
olarak kullanılır:
He has won the lottery and he is going to buy a car.
They are going to build a garage.
I am going to pay for my debts tomorrow.
Gelecekte herhangi bir olayın olacağına dair kesin işaretler varsa be going to kullanırız:
Look at those clouds! It’s going to rain.
She is so pale. She is going to faint.
Was/were going to ise bunun past (geçmiş) halidir. İşin yapılmasının planlamış olduğunu
fakat sonradan gerçekleşmemiş olduğunu belirtir:
They were going to beat Galatasaray, but they were disappointed.
He was going to hold a party, but he couldn‟t afford it.
