Yasaklama (prohibition) söz konusu ise may not veya cannot kullanılır:

He can’t come to this street from now on.
(Şu andan itibaren bu caddeye gelemez.)

She may not join any of our conversations again.
(Hiçbir sohbetimize tekrar katılamaz)

 Bazı fiillerle de yasaklama, izin vermeme belirtilebilir:

You are allowed/not allowed to share this room with your friend.
You are permitted/not permitted to go on holiday.
You are forbidden to smoke here.

OBLIGATION /NECCESSITY
(ZORUNLULUK/GEREKLİLİK)

Zorunluluk veya gereklilik ifade etmek için kullanılan kiplikler: Should, ought to, must,
have (got) to, need.

Should ve ought to:

 Should ve ought to birbirinin yerine kullanılabilir. Fakat should kullanım açısından daha
yaygındır.

You should/ought to come earlier than usual.
(Her zamankinden daha erken gelmelisiniz)

He should/ought to clean his own room.
(Kendi odasını temizlemesi gerekiyor)

They should/ought to pay for the bill.
(Hesabı ödemeleri gerekiyor)

 Should ve ought to ‘continuous tense’ ile de kullanılabilir:

She should/ought to be preparing the breakfast now. (But, she is not)
(Onun şimdi kahvaltıyı hazırlıyor olması gerekir. (Fakat hazırlamıyor )

The pupils should/ought to be studying for the exam. (But, they aren’t)
Öğrencilerin sınava çalışıyor olmaları gerekir. (Fakat çalışmıyorlar)

 Should have + V3 ve ought to have + V3 bize geçmişteki bir yükümlülüğün,
zorunluluğun yerine getirilmesi gerektiğini veya gerekmediğini bildirir.

You should/ought to have told him the truth.
(Ona gerçeği söylemeliydin)
