243 THE INFINITIVE

The infinitive after verb or verb + object; yani, bazı fiiller to-infinitive’den önce bir isim
(noun) veya zamir(pronoun) ile veya olmaksızın kullanılabilirler. Bu fiillerin en yaygınları:

ask beg choose
expect hate help
intend like love
need prefer promise
want wish mean

He wants to speak to the history teacher.
(Tarih öğretmeniyle konuşmayı istiyor)

He wants you to speak to the history teacher.
(Tarih öğretmeniyle konuşmanı istiyor)

She’d like to share the room with you.
(Odayı senle paylaşmak istiyor)

She’d like you to share the room with her.
(Odayı onunla paylaşmanı istiyor)

 Promise fiili istisnadır. Her iki durumda da aynı anlama sahiptir:

I promise to help him.
I promise you to help him.
