Negative of to-infinitive: To-infinitive’in olumsuz şekli, önüne not getirilerek yapılır:

He decided not to take up tennis.
They advised me not to go there alone.

 Cümlede not sözcüğünü kullanacağımız yere göre cümlenin anlamı değişir:

Karşılaştırın:

They told me not to go there alone. (‘Bana gitme’ dediler.)
They didn’t tell me to go there alone. (Bana bir şey demediler)

 Bazen cümlenin hem yardımcı fiilinden sonra hem de to-infinitive’den önce not getirile-
bilir:

I can’t promise not to be late.

Kalıplaşmış ifadelerde kullanılır:

to be honest to cut a long story short
to put it another way to get back to the point
to begin with not to make too much of it
to be fair to tell you the truth

 Adjective + to-infinitive:

Sıfatların (adjectives) çoğundan sonra to-infinitive gelir:

 Subj+be+adj+to-infinitive:

Mary was rude to shout at me.
Mehmet is right to criticise you.

 It+be+adj+noun(isim)/pronoun(zamir)+to-infinitive:

It was kind of you to invite me to your house.
(Beni evinize davet etmeniz kibarlığınızdı)

It is foolish of me to accept his offer.
(Onun teklifini kabul etmek benim aptallığımdır)

It was careless of her to break the glasses.
(Bardakları kırması onun dikkatsizliği idi)
