 Bununla birlikte the’ nın aşağıdaki örnekteki gibi kullanımına bakalım:

He punched me in the face. She hit me in the eye.
A bee stung her on the nose. You don’t have to pull me by the collar.
He looked me in the face and said, ‘No’. What’s worse than a pain in the tooth?.

Örneklerde gördüğümüz gibi the bir edattan sonra kullanılmış ve my, your, his gibi iyelik
belirtmektedir.

 Of + possessive pronoun yapısı da çok yaygın olarak kullanılır:

Mr. Genç is a friend of mine. He can lend you some money.
It was a good idea of yours to go swimming this afternoon.
He is going to help a friend of his.
I think that woman is a neighbour of yours.
She is a student of hers.

Reflexive pronoun, bir kişinin yaptığı işten yine kendisinin etkilendiğini gösterir. Daima fiil-
den sonra kullanılır. İyelik sıfatlarına self/selves eklenmesiyle yourself, themselves gibi; nes-
ne zamirlerine self eklenmesiyle himself gibi dönüşlü zamirler oluşturulur.

Dönüşlü zamirlerin zorunlu olarak kullanılması gereken fiiller.

 İngilizce’de dönüşlü zamirlerin kullanılması gereken fiiller vardır: absent, avail, pride vb.

He prides himself too much.
They absented themselves without food for two weeks.

 Diğer fiillerin çoğu ile dönüşlü zamirler kullanılır:

He cut himself while shaving.
We enjoyed ourselves at the party.
