 If + were to/was to + would/could/might/should:

'Were to', 'was to' ya nazaran daha yaygın olarak kullanılır ve nezaket ifade eder.

If Fatih were to apply for the post, he would get it.
If she were to study, she could succeed.
If you were to ask him, he might help you.

TYPE- 3
En çok kullanılan yapı: If + past perfect + would have +V(3)

Type-3 geçmişte gerçek olmayan, tümüyle düşsel bir koşullu durum anlatılırken kullanılır.

Karşılaştırın:

I am tired : If I was tired, I wouldn't study. (now)
I was tired: If I hadn't been tired, I wouldn't have studied. (past)

Örnekler:

If he had helped me, he would have been late.
(Bana yardım etseydi geç kalırdı)

If they had studied, they would have passed the exam.
(Çalışsalardı sınavı geçerlerdi)

If I had known you were coming, I would have met you at the station
(Geldiğini bilseydim seni istasyonda karşılardım)

If we had found him earlier, we would have saved his life.
(Onu daha erken bulsaydık hayatını kurtarırdık)

If I had studied harder I would have got a better job.
(Daha sıkı çalışsaydım daha iyi bir iş bulurdum)

If we had beaten Fenerbahçe, we would have been champion.
(Fenerbahçe'yi yenseydik şampiyon olurduk)

 If + past perect tense + modal:

Ana cümle(main clause) de would'un yerine could veya might kullanabiliriz:

If he had struggled, he could have reached his aim. (ability=yetenek)
If they had informed me, I might have helped them. (probability=olasılık)
