TYPE - 2
En çok kullanılan yapı: If + simple past + would

Type-2 gerçeğe aykırı olabilecek veya şu anda olabilecek bir olayın veya gerçek olarak düşü-
nülen bir durumu ifade eder. Bu yapıda past tense ve modal'ların geçmiş hali kullanılmasına
rağmen, anlam ve durum present'tır. Bu yüzden type-2 'Unreal Present' diye de adlandırılır:

If I went by train now, I would get there earlier.
(anlam present : henüz gitmemişim)

If they flew tomorrow, they would be able to see the festival.
(anlam future : henüz uçmamışlar)

If I had more money, I would lend you some.
(anlam present : henüz fazla param yok)

Şimdi If-clause ve main clause'da kullanabileceğimiz tense ve modal'ları görelim:

 If + were/was + would/should:

 If-clause'da, I/she/he/it 'den sonra gelmesi gereken was yerine genellikle were kullanılır.
Anlamda fark yoktur. Were biraz daha resmidir.Ana cümlede ise would veya should kulla-
nılır:

If he were me, he'd apply for that job.
If she were you she'd refuse that proposal.

 If I were you veya If I were in your position genellikle birisine öğüt verirken kullanılır:

If I were you/in your position, I'd stop smoking.
If I were you/in your position, I'd take the money.

 If it were not for ifadesi bize birşeyin neden olduğunu/olmadığını belirtir:

If it weren't for your help, I would still be homeless.
If it weren't for her request, he would never come here.

 If + simple past + could/might:

Bu yapıda would yerine could veya might kullanılabilir. Buna bağlı olarak da anlamda hafif
değişmeler olabilir:

If you tried again, you would succeed (kesin sonuç)
If you tried again, you might succeed (muhtemel sonuç)
If you tried again, you could succeed (kabiliyet)
