QUANTIFIERS

Türkçe karşılığı niceleyiciler olan quantifiers, bahsettiğimiz şeyin ne kadar (how much?) veya
kaç tane (how many?) olduğunu gösteren ve genellikle isimleri belirten few, little, many, most
gibi sözcük veya sözcük grubudur. Bunların bazıları hem sayılabilen hem de sayılamayan, ba-
zıları sadece sayılabilen, bazıları sadece sayılamayan isimlerle kullanılırlar:

QUANTIFIER + NOUN COMBINATIONS

Niceleyiciler değişik türdeki isimlerle kullanılırlar. Bunları inceleyelim:

 Quantifier + plural countable noun (Niceleyici + sayılabilir çoğul isim):

Aşağıdaki niceleyicilerin hepsinden sonra sayılabilir çoğul isim gelir:

both fewer a minority of
a couple of the fewest a number of
dozens/hundreds of a/the majority of several
(a) few (not) many

Both:

 İki insan veya şeyden söz ederken kullanılır:

She saw two cats. Both were black = Both cats were black.

I lost two pencils. Both were expensive = Both pencils were expensive.

 Both ile isim arasında the/my/these gibi bir sözcük varsa isimden önce of kullanılabilir:

Both of my friends got married yesterday.
Both of the students were cheating in the examination.

 Both cümlede eylemden önce de gelebilir:

The students both cheated in the examination.
The boys both laughed at us.
They can both carry out this duty = They both can carry out this duty.

 Both of you/us/them yapısı da kullanılabilir:

Both of them were playing chess.
Both of you will clean this room.
Both of us are the most hardworking students in our class.
