The number of da a number of ile hemen hemen aynı anlamdadır. Ancak a number of’un
aksine the number of ‘un bulunduğu cümlede kullanılacak olan fiil ya da yardımcı fiil tekil
olmalıdır.

The number of books stolen from the library is large.
The number of cars produced in Turkey isn’t so great.

Several:

‘Birkaç, bazı’ anlamına gelen several daima sayılabilir çoğul isimlerle kullanılır. Several ile
isim arasında the, my, your, these, us, you, them gibi sözcükler varsa several’dan sonra of
kullanılmalıdır:

She has written several books about Turkey.
Several students were enrolled today.
Several of the paintings have been stolen from the art gallery
Several of them want to help us.
I sold several of my books yesterday.

 Quantifier + uncountable noun (Niceleyici + sayılamayan isim):

Aşağıdaki niceeleyicilerden sonra sayılamayan isim kullanılmalıdır:

a small amount of a large quantity of
a great amount of a great/good deal of
a bit of (a)little
a drop of less/the least

A small amount of:

‘Az miktarda’ anlamına gelen bu niceleyiciden sonra gelen isim sayılamaz daima tekildir ve
bundan sonra yardımcı fiil ya da eylem geliyorsa o da tekil olur:

A small amount of work was done today.
A small amount of encouragement would make him jump.

A large amount of/a great amount of:

‘Çok miktarda’ anlamına gelen bu niceleyicilerden sonra gelen isim sayılamaz daima tekildir
ve bunlardan sonra yardımcı fiil ya da eylem geliyorsa tekil olmalıdır:

He has saved a large/great amount of money this year.
A large/great amount of sugar has been consumed.
