Duyu fiilleri (verbs of sensation) ile present participle kullanımı:

 See, hear, feel, smell, listen, notice, watch gibi duyu fiillerinden sonra object + present
participle gelebilir:

I heard him laughing.
He smelt something burning.
She watched us crossing the road.
They saw him stealing a bike.

 See, hear, feel, notice, watch, listen fiillerinden sonra object + bare infinitive (‘to’ alan
eylem) gelebilir. Bu durumda cümlenin anlamı biraz değişir:

Karşılaştırın:

a- The teacher saw the students cheating in the exam.
(Öğretmen öğrencileri sınavda kopya çekerken gördü)

b- The teacher saw the students cheat in the exam.
(Öğretmen öğrencilerin sınavda kopya çektiklerini gördü)

a- cümlesinde, eylemin ya tamamlanmış ya da tamamlanmamış olduğunu, konuşmacının
eylemin ya bütününü ya da bir bölümünü gördüğünü anlıyoruz.

b- cümlesinde ise, eylemin tamamlanmış olduğunu ve konuşmacının eylemin hepsini
gördüğünü anlıyoruz.

Catch, find, leave fiillerinden sonra da object + present participle gelebilir:

I found him stealing apples from our garden.
(Onu bahçemizden elma çalarken buldum)

Our teacher caught us cheating in the exam.
(Öğretmenimiz bizi sınavda kopya çekerken yakaladı)

I left him talking to Ann.
(Onu, Ann ile konuşurken bıraktım)

Go, come, spend, waste, be busy fiillerinden sonra present participle kullanılabilir:

We are going fishing. He went shopping.
Come dancing tonight. Come playing tennis this afternoon.

I am busy talking on the phone.
She is busy looking after the child.
