I wish he would come here tomorrow.
(Keşke yarın burada olsa)

I wish the teacher would read our exam papers tomorrow.
(Keşke öğretmen yarın sınav kağıtlarımızı okusa)

I wish it would stop raining.
(Keşke yağmur dursa)

Wish + subject + could ile ‘yetenek, gücü yetebilme’ (ability) belirtebiliriz:

I wish I could play guitar.
(Keşke gitar çalabilsem)

I wish I could run as fast as you.
(Keşke senin kadar hızlı koşabilsem)

I wish Mr. Kılıç could have graduated last year.
(Keşke Mr. Kılıç geçen yıl mezun olabilseydi )

If only ve wish:

Bunların ikisi hemen hemen aynı anlama sahip ve aynı şekilde kullanılırlar. If only, wish’e
nazaran daha dramatik bir anlama sahiptir:

If only he could have lived a little longer!
(Keşke biraz daha uzun yaşayabilseydi!)

If only we had helped them!
(Keşke onlara yardım etseydik!)

Ayrıca if only ile yapılan cümleden sonra bir sonuç cümlesi gelebilir. Ama wish’in bağlı bu-
lunduğu cümleden sonra sonuç cümlesi getirilmez:

If only we had studied harder, we would have passed the exam.

If only I knew your address, I would visit you.

If only I hadn’t spent my money last summer, I could have bought a new car.
