 Wish + subject + past perfect tense: (Past situation)

Wish cümleciği, bu kullanımıyla geçmişte gerçekleşmiş eylemlerden pişmanlık (regret) be-
lirtmek için kullanılır. Wish eylemi de wished olarak da kullanılabilir; anlamda hiçbir deği-
şiklik olmaz:

I spent my money so extravagantly that I remained penniless now.
I wish (wished) I hadn’t spent my money so extravagantly.
(Keşke paramı böyle müsrif bir şekilde harcamasaydım)

I didn’t stay at home last night. There was a very good film on TV.
I wish I had stayed at home last night.
(Keşke geçen gece evde kalsaydım)

You told me all this, so I became very sad about the situation.
I wish you hadn’t told me all this.
(Keşke bunun hepsini bana söylemeseydin)

I didn’t take his advice, so I failed in the exam.
I wish I had taken his advice.
(Keşke onun tavsiyesini alsaydım)

We couldn’t find the combination of the safe, so we were disappointed.
I wish we could have found the combination of the safe.
(Keşke kasanın şifresini bulabilseydik)

I had to wait outside last night, so I caught a cold.
I wish I hadn’t had to wait outside last night.
(Keşke geçen gece dışarıda beklemek zorunda kalmasaydım)

 ‘Would’ ve ‘could’ after wish:

I wish you would/wouldn’t ifadesi genellikle kibarca emir belirtir:

I wish you wouldn’t make so much noise.
(Keşke bu kadar gürültü yapmasanız)

I wish you would help me.
(Keşke bana yardım etseniz)

I wish you wouldn’t smoke here.
(Keşke burada sigara içmeseniz)

Wish + subject + would ile , isteklilik (willingness) veya isteksizlik (unwillingness)
belirtebiliriz:

I wish the baby would stop crying .
(Keşke bebek ağlamayı kesse)
